My Journey
As a child, my greatest source of inspiration was the forest, sea and country-sides near where I lived in Southern England. I learnt so much from exploring forests, hiking mountains and surfing waves. I first started painting murals to raise awareness for our environment and the struggles it goes through. But more recently I have learnt that as humans, we need nature as much as it needs us. My mission is to bring the outside world into peoples living and workspaces to increase wellbeing and mindfulness through the imagination.
I believe that if we knew everything about this world it wouldn’t be half as interesting, which is why I am constantly growing and developing as a person. Recently I have discovered ways to make my own natural and ethical paints out of earth pigments. It is like a meditation to me, finding the pigments in nature, bringing them into my studio, grinding them up and seeing the wonderful and unique colours that come from the earth.
Make More Art Not More waste.
When I began learning about natural painting methods, I became more aware of the effects my standard paint has on the planet. It was shocking to me when it became difficult to find companies that were providing affordable and acceptable paint without also harming the environment. My dilemma with earth pigments was that I would have to extract a large amount from what belongs on Earth for me to use just a small amount! And I know that taking what belongs, is just as bad as polluting what doesn't.
This is when I came across a small evolving company ‘Tomorrow's Artist’. They had the same mission as me; ‘creating a brighter, more sustainable future for artists who want to make more art, not more waste’. Tomorrow's Artist is partnering with Encore to extract discarded paint from the waste stream and turn it into high-quality paint. This initiative will help reduce pollution and help support Tomorrow's Artist in their mission to create positive change for the future of art. Learning this, I had to reach out to them. We connected on a call and fast forward to now, I’m using their paint in all my work, making less waste and more art, colour by colour.
